Introduction: Course Overview

Coaches' Corner, Hockey Equipment, Off-ice Training, Skills, Useful Products
Welcome to Weiss Tech Hockey's Home Hockey Training Center! As you know, hockey is a complex game that combines MANY different skills. Great hockey players can skate well, stickhandle, shoot, pass... they're strong, fast, smart, and make the right decision at the right time! One of the biggest mistakes many hockey players make is that they only work on their skills at the rink; they only work on their speed and strength at the rink; and they only work on their hockey smarts at the rink. In today's game, if you're only developing your abilities during your regular practices and games, you're probably not going to achieve your full potential. The best players I know are at the gym on their own, working on their hockey skills off the ice,…

Hockey Drill Diagramming Software for Mac!

Coaches' Corner, Useful Products
Finally... A High-Quality Hockey Drill Diagramming Software for Mac Users! I'm sure you know by now, I'm a BIG DrillDraw fanboy. I've been using it for years now, and I really like it. The one drawback to DrillDraw is that it is only available for Windows, which interferes with the fact that I'm also an Apple fanboy, who does most of his work on a Mac. Over the past few years I've had a lot of folks ask if I knew of a decent drill diagramming alternative for Mac users, and up until now I haven't had a good answer... but those days are over now! My good friend, Kevin Muller from HockeyShare has just released a CROSS-PLATFORM, drill diagramming software that you can use with any operating system. In…

Coaches' Corner, Defensive Zone, Neutral Zone, Offensive Zone, Philosophy, Special Teams, Team Strategy, Team Systems
https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLE3A7B0E18F091206 Check the Embedded PLAYLIST Above, for Updated NHL Play Dissections This post is a little different than usual. I've recently put together a number of videos dissecting various NHL plays and situations. I've been posting these videos on my YouTube Channel, but I thought my blog readers might find them useful too. So... the video above is actually a PLAYLIST, which will update itself whenever I post a new play dissection to YouTube. When you hover your mouse over the video, you'll see the other play dissections I've already posted. Many of these dissections will refer back to concepts we've discussed in the Coaches' Training Course, so take a browse through the course if you haven't yet. I'm going to be posting more play dissections as we progress through…

Spice Figure 8 Passing Drill

Spice Figure 8 Passing Drill

Hockey Drills, Individual Skill Drills, Neutral Zone, Passing & Timing, Regroups, Shooting, Skating & Agility, Team Skill Drills, Team Systems Drills
Here's Another One of my Favorite Hockey Passing Drills I love this hockey passing drill because it just flows well––especially when you have the right group of players for it. At it's best, this is a quick-paced, "tic-tac-toe" type of drill. However, if you have the wrong group of players, this drill will grind to a halt pretty quickly. So, just make sure your players are advanced enough before attempting this one! Here's the diagram and explanation: Spice Figure 8 Passing Drill 1. On the whistle, one (F) from each line diagonally across from each other goes. 2. Each (F) takes a few steps forward, then passes to the far (D). 3. The defensemen make a few "D to D" passes, then hit the (F) as he power turns around…

A Great Little Hockey Regroup Drill! This is a great little hockey regroup drill that can be converted into a 1 on 1 as your players progress. Here's the diagram and explanation: Burkart Regroup 1. (F) passes to (D) and swings 2. D to D pass, then back to the Forward 3. (F) receives pass, then executes another regroup with other set of defensemen 4. (F) attacks 1 on 0 Variation: have the (D) play the (F) 1 on 1 Enjoy!! USE THIS DRILL IN YOUR OWN PRACTICE PLAN:
