Coaches' Corner, Hockey Equipment, Individual Skills, Off-ice Training, Passing, Puckhandling, Shooting, Skills, Useful Products
Dryland Flooring Tiles are one of the Most Versatile Hockey Products on the Market Today In this post, I wanted to introduce an extremely effective and versatile product, HockeyShot's Dryland Flooring Tiles. The reason I say this is such a versatile product is that you can literally design your "floor plan" to fit your training objectives. This might mean using six or eight tiles as a shooting pad, or it might mean going wall to wall with them in your basement for a fully functional stickhandling, passing, and shooting facility. Not only are the flooring tiles versatile in how they can be used, but you also get a lot of flexibility when it comes to timeline. You don't have to outfit your whole room all at once... These tiles are…

Stickhandling: Roll-up Skill Pad

Coaches' Corner, Hockey Equipment, Individual Skills, Off-ice Training, Puckhandling, Skills, Useful Products
Save Your Stick with this Roll-up Skill Pad that Mimics the Feel of Real Ice! As is the case with off-ice shooting practice, when working on your stickhandling you need a good slick surface to work on. This is the case for two reasons: To save your stick: Sticks are expensive these days, and you want to be using your game stick for your off-ice stickhandling and shooting drills. To mimic the ice surface: It's no secret that pucks don't slide well on concrete. You want to work on a surface that will act and feel as close to real ice as possible. HockeyShot's Roll-up Shooting & Skill Pad will accomplish both of these objectives. It'll protect your stick, and give you a smooth, slick surface on which your pucks…

Shooting: My Favorite Off-ice Shooting Drill

Shooting: My Favorite Off-ice Shooting Drill

Hockey Drills, Hockey Equipment, Individual Skill Drills, Off-ice Training, Shooting, Skills
P.I.G. is One of my Favorite Off-ice Shooting Drills When I was in high school, we had a hockey net and backstop out in my parents' side yard. We also had a Shooter Tutor strapped up to the net, with about 100 pucks. Almost everyday my buddy and I would shoot pucks together. To keep it entertaining, most of the time we'd play a game called P.I.G. P.I.G. is really fun, and can be played on or off the ice. Here's how it works... The Rules: P.I.G. works a lot like H.O.R.S.E. in basketball, except that it's a shorter game, so it's a little more intense. Basically, a player calls his or her shot. The shots can be any typical shot, or you can get creative and start calling posts…

Shooting: Professional Shooting Pad

Coaches' Corner, Hockey Equipment, Off-ice Training, Skills, Useful Products
The HockeyShot Professional Shooting Pad is a Must-Have if You Plan to Work on Your Shot from Home! This product is a no-brainer. If you want to work on your shot off the ice, you need a good shooting pad. Otherwise you'll wreck your stick, and the pucks won't slide with the same feel as real ice. HockeyShot's Professional Shooting Pad is a great choice. I've used quite a few "makeshift" shooting pads over the years. Some of these worked ok, some not as well. None has compared to the experience I've had with the Professional Shooting Pad. There are a few key features that make this a "must-have" item: 30" by 60" surface area, which is larger than most of the pads I've used in the past. This makes…

Shooting: Shooter Tutor Review

Coaches' Corner, Hockey Equipment, Off-ice Training, Skills, Useful Products
The Shooter Tutor is one of my All-time Favorite Hockey Shooting Aids! I first began using the Shooter Tutor when I was about 10 years old back in Toronto. My dad used to keep one in the trunk incase we had ever had a goalie "no-show" us for practice. During high school (about 6 years later), I kept that same Shooter Tutor strapped to a full-sized goal in our side yard. I left it up through rain and shine, and shot anywhere from 50 to 100 pucks a day during the summers. Needless to say, it saw its fair share of abuse from me! Years later, when I began running my own skill development camps, the first thing I invested in were two Shooter Tutors. There's nothing worse than showing…
