A hockey team’s ability to consistently make stick to stick passes can be the difference between winning and losing. Passing is one of those fundamentals skills that can inhibit a player’s future progress if not learned properly early on. Here are 3 essential keys to proper hockey passing technique – enjoy!

Drill: High-Low Shooting Drill

Files under Shooting | 2 Comments

Click Here for a print out of High-Low Hockey Shooting Drills.

Here’s another great hockey drill that I like to use particularly as a warm-up drill. It is quick-paced, and incorporates skating, stickhandling, and shooting in stride. It’s also great for goalies as it gets them moving side-to-side. Players must keep their heads up as they explode through the middle of the ice in opposite directions. Stress that the players keep their feet moving throughout the entire drill. Enjoy!

Individual Skill: Skating Power

Hockey speed is attained by combining Skating Power, and Foot Speed. A player will never achieve his or her full skating potential until both skills have been acquired, and perfected.

As you begin work on skating with your team, begin with power and technique… then add foot speed. As you increase the tempo of your skating drills, don’t let your players sacrifice technique for foot speed. Players must be able to move their feet at full speed while maintaining a technically sound stride!
